Exceed Your Personal Best
Let me start by first congratulating you on your academic accomplishments thus far. Being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa is an incredible honor that shows you are among the best and brightest at your institution. You’ve shown that you have the capacity to think critically and solve complex problems in the classroom, and now you have the opportunity to apply those skills toward bettering your institution, community, and region. Although for some, your aspirations may be even bigger as you plan to leave your mark on the country or globe. No matter where your journey takes you, it starts with how you apply yourself today. PTK has a way of transforming exceptional students into extraordinary leaders, and at North Central College, these types of characteristics are what we look for when admitting our incoming class of transfer students.
It’s because of leaders and change-agents like yourself that we have developed clubs, activities, organizations, and even academic programs to support your visions. North Central was recently named a “Changemaker Campus” and received funding to help support that mission. One of the initiatives that came out of this recognition was a new major in “Social Entrepreneurship” that combines business practices with a broad understanding of society and culture to create change in the world. Students can also submit proposals for our “Changemaker Challenge” and receive funding and mentoring to explore a venture or project they are passionate about. These types of outlets and opportunities can be found throughout all our academic programs and organizations on-campus as we continually try to help students exceed their personal best.
At North Central, we are committing to rewarding and supporting PTK students for their excellence. Our institution enrolls approximately 900 students each year – 1/3 of which are transfer students. To help aid in their transition to North Central, we have created transfer student clubs, a Transfer Seminar Course, and was recently selected to host a chapter of Tau Sigma (the honor society for transfer students at 4-year institutions). We also are committed to helping PTK students financially as we know affordability is an important part of their college decision. In Fall 2018 alone we offered 141 students a PTK scholarship worth $3,000. Considering these students were also eligible for one of our top academic scholarships (ranging up to $20,000) they are receiving a substantial amount of financial aid just for being great students and leaders. Beyond those awards, we also recognize students that are members of additional honors societies at the community college by offering them a $1,000 scholarship. All of these scholarships, in addition to any other merit or need-based awards you might receive, continue to stack on top of one another to help reduce the cost of attendance.
About North Central College
North Central College is a nationally recognized institution located in Naperville, Illinois, a thriving suburb just west of Chicago. We have been deemed a transfer friendly institution by PTK after being selected to their “Transfer Honor Roll” the past two years in a row. Our mission is to prepare students to exceed their personal best. This is accomplished by elevating students’ confidence through inspired instruction by faculty who love to teach, and who support students inside and outside of the classroom, helping them realize their direction. Our students have access to state-of-the art facilities and distinctive programs. What makes North Central truly unique is that everything we do begins with our students. It’s our “Cardinal rule.”
