Last Minute Catalyst Tips

Last Minute Catalyst Tips!

We are now in the single digit countdown to PTK Catalyst (just days)! With all the excitement, you may be  feeling overwhelmed.  Welcome to your PTK Catalyst Survival Guide.

What To Pack

The forecast for Orlando during PTK Catalyst ranges from a low of 63 all the way up to 83, along with some showers predicted throughout the week. Keeping that in mind, it is important to bring a variety of spring/summer clothing. For women,  I recommend wearing either jeans or shorts with a short sleeve shirt to prevent you from overheating. It may be a wise idea to bring a jacket in anticipation of it getting colder and it raining. For the gentleman who will be attending PTK Catalyst, you can never go wrong with Cargo shorts and a shirt/sweatshirt.

It’s also important that you bring comfortable shoes to walk around in as there will be a lot going on in such a few days. To prepare for the Hallmark Awards Gala I recommend a dress for women with maybe a light jacket.  For the gentlemen, I recommend a suit that’s  comfortable.

Here are a few more suggestions:

  • Sunscreen, and LOTS of it!
  • Swimsuits
  • Chargers for electronics
  • Extra Cash to spend on food, PTK swag, or souvenirs
  • A small bag for you to carry snacks, water, and other materials throughout the day
  • Note: You might not have time for homework-so plan ahead!

What To Attend

If you go under PTK.org under the Events tab, you’ll find a link to the annual convention page. This page has everything you need to know about PTK Catalyst, ranging from who is speaking, places to eat (along with discounts they offer), and recently added, all the locations, topics, and a brief description of all the educational forums offered. I recommend heading over and looking over the schedule you can have a game plan for catalyst. New to this year, PTK Headquarters has created a mobile app that gives you all Catalyst information at the tips of your fingers. Simply go to the App store of Google Play and type in Phi Theta Kappa. Download the app and have access to all catalyst information. There are a few additional events I recommend attending such as:

  • Wisconsin Regional Meeting-Thursday 4/4 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Daytona 1
  • All general sessions
  • Scholar Bowl competitions to cheer on your Regional Officer Mary Williams
  • Extemporaneous Speech competition to cheer on your soon to be Regional President Brittany Campbell
  • Prepared Speech Competition to cheer on Katrina Wills from Madison College
  • Any other events individuals in your chapter might be competing in
  • International Officer campaigning/Caucus
  • Marketplace
  • Human Fooseball tournament (we still need a few volunteers!)

What To Do

Have fun and create as memories as you can. Enjoy being with individuals from your chapter, getting to know individuals from all around the world, and being a part of history. For those of you not able to come to PTK Catalyst, there are Facebook live streams offered during the Opening ceremony, International Officer Caucus, Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner Convention Address, and the Hallmark Awards Gala, so you may have the Catalyst experience from the comfort of your own home!

We can’t wait to see everyone there!
